Satire is meant to be funny and not taken seriously. It's for entertainment purposes only. It only goes too far when the viewer takes it too far.

 @9H5RZMYfrom Ontario answered…6mos6MO

Satire can definitely go too far. If the Satire is misinforming people, if it is encouraging or inciting hate and violence towards certain groups of people then it has gone too far. For example, many Western comedians will make fun of other religions and cultures claiming it is satire but only reinstating harmful stereotypes which leads to tangible negative consequences.

Satire is a more light hearted way of engaging people with political issues and rather than making them fearful of current situations. It is also for entertaining rather than serious which can help people stay calm in most situations.

In what ways can satire offer a sense of solidarity or community in facing societal and political challenges?

 @9HSJN2Danswered…5mos5MO

The side-effect of teasing is that it humanizes and draws sympathy for the powerful individual towards which it is directed. Satire instead uses the comic to go against power and its oppressions, has a subversive character, and a moral dimension which draws judgement against its targets
