Our military is crippled with the lack of equipment and personnel. Without more spending, we are opening ourselves to threats from other countries.

It is important that we stand by our NATO commitments and meet the targets we promised to enter the alliance. This is a requirement to be a member of NATO. With the situation in Russia and Ukraine and the Arctic we need to maintain our standing with NATO and meet our commitments. One example where we could use this money is we haven't updated our NORAD Arctic defense radars since 1989. Another example of outdated equipment in our military is our fighter aircraft which entered service in 1982 and has received modernization but is coming to the end of its life cycle. Our dependence on these aircraft is very high, we depend on them to intercept in our airspace and in the Arctic, they are very important.

We continue to support the independence of other countries however our own military cannot enforce our northern sea passage

how many homeless people live on the streets in Canada? how many people go hungry every night in Canada? how many reservations don't have proper funding and clean drinking water? why do we need increase militarily spending when we can be using it to better our society and our economy by providing more jobs and encouraging the misfortunate rather than dehumanizing them

Canada has a very weak military and could be taken down by most militaries on the planet. The US will not defend us that is why we should grow our military.

We need to increase military spending as global tensions are rising and if we do not we could be crushed under the weight of a stronger power like china or north Korea.

To start, Canada has been below our promised 2% of our GDP on military spending with NATO for years now, much to international criticism, so we should be meeting that as the bare minimum. But for us personally as a country, I believe that even that percentage is not enough. Canada has the longest coastline in the world, and it just so happens that we also sit right across from our number one biggest threat, a threat that patrols our north regularly with no consequence as we just sit and watch. And the argument that we don't need to invest in our military because the US will take care of our problems for us is dumb and internationally selfish thinking. The US already has enough on their plate handling their own affairs and the affairs of countries that don't have the option to take care of themselves. We have the ability to take care of ourselves, but we don't because we've grown entitled and soft because we haven't faced any real threat in a while. And in all honesty, do you really want the US making all the decisions for us in OUR arctic? No, they're our waters and we should protect them as such. Take Australia for example, Australia has a very similar GDP, land mass, population, and structure of government to us, and yet unlike us they have successfully been pulling their weight for a long time; keeping their equipment modern and at good supply, and they also bought some nuclear subs not too long ago, and they don’t nearly have the problems we do with the arctic and Russia breathing down our neck, so we have no excuses. Our recent ordering of those F35s will only barely set us at the standard, but it is still a good step in the right direction, even though we should have had them 10 years ago. I also strongly believe that we need to invest in ICBM defense systems, for the fact that if Russia were to send nuclear ICBMs to the US, they would have to go over our skies. And I don't know about you but I believe we should be able to defend our nation in the case of a nuclear attack, because DEFENSE IS IMPORTANT, especially now that things are heating up in the world, it’s important we stay on our toes.

We need to be the best fighting force ever and Canada cannot afford to cheap out on the military training

With the worsening of global climate change, we need a response force to natural disasters, if we have a military that hates us and can't afford in the place where they're stationed what's making them stay in the forces?

Canada lacks adequate ships and aircraft to defend its territory, frequently has to rely on aid from the British and Americans to protect us in the north as we lack nuclear submarines, icebreakers etc to effectively survey the waters.

When considering the current events in Ukraine and the heightened concerns in the Indo-Pacific region, national security needs to become a higher priority. We cannot solely depend on the United States to protect us, their last president has demonstrated that this would be a mistake. Canada needs to invest more in National security.

This power acts as a deterrent for aggressors. In the absence of military spending, opponents may view the nation as a soft target. Even though local defense spending may be more expensive, it creates more value in the form of more robust national security and fewer disruptions to trade and commerce. If the defense system of a country is fully integrated, there are economic benefits to it.

If we spend more money on military grade weapons no country would want to match with us because were that powerful.

so canada can have more independant protection and not have to rely on being the nice easygoing country that will get stepped on

I think the government should prioritize education and health care because investing on military is almost pointless when no one is willing to attack us because we have the biggest army in the world (U.S.A) as one of our alies.

as the years go, more and more technology are being created. This means military funding should go up to keep up with the new military technology coming in.

for example, if Canada was invaded and taken over, we could all be living under a dictatorship, that wouldn't happen if we had a strong military.

Statistically it would be better to increase military spending to have a stronger military, don't you agree.
