The senate should be a regionally elected body similar to the US in that all provinces and territories get two senators, regardless of population. In addition, those running for election must get 50.1% of the entire vote in order to be elected. Multiple parties and candidates may necessitate run off elections whereby candidate receiving less than a threshold number of votes; say 15%, 20 or 25% are eliminated from the next round. The entire government should be reorganized into a Constitutional Republic with an elected head of state, elected MPs, and senators who serve 6 year terms, 33% of whom are up for election every 2 years.

Have a Senate made up of people from different backgrounds/walks of life that recommend public policy and advocate for different issues, as a way to make Canadian democracy stronger.

Canadians should elect a Triple-E Senate, not the Federal Government. Fix your wording, what it says now is clearly not your intended question.

The Prime Minister should not be allowed to be the only determinant of who is appointed.

The Senate should be composed of 2 seats per Province/Terr. and be appointed by their legislatures by an open-to-all ballot for them to choose from.

Give 8 senators to each province and one in Ottawa, but they cannot represent federal parties, they represent the senate

Each province should be allocated an equal number of senate seats and senators should be elected by the electorate in their corresponding province. This adds senatorial independence, yet accountable to the electorate.

Nominated by provincial legislatures, based on the party ratio in their respective legislatures (Senate composition would change after each provincial election).

 @9H6RB6LConservativefrom New York answered…5mos5MO

Transfer appointments to the provincial legislatures, equalize the number of senators per province, and impose a staggered terms of eight years

 @9GVMYT3from Ontario answered…6mos6MO

by nomination but require members to be non-partisan. Increase the power of veto regarding laws pass by the house of commons. Increase the powers of the senate to approve the nomination of department commissioners, military officers, ambassadors and federal judges.
