A new joint report from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warns that extreme heat is severely threatening global food systems.
Rising temperatures are endangering crops, livestock, fisheries, and forests, putting the livelihoods and health of over a billion people at risk. The report highlights that heatwaves are reducing agricultural productivity, increasing livestock mortality, and making it unsafe for farmers to work outdoors. Particularly vulnerable regions include major agricultural areas like the Ganges and Indus River basins in India.
The UN urges immediate adaptation measures to protect food security and prevent a worsening global food crisis.
