That the definition of Family should only matter to each family and that no two are alike. The boundries of that should be respected and religious institutions should stop trying to violate human rights and redefine constructs for those who do not follow that religion.

 @9KX67BNfrom Alberta  agreed…12mos12MO

Religious institutions should not have any authority when it comes to matters of human rights. Freedom to religion is also freedom from religion.

A family is a group of people who are related to each other biologically or through adoption. Typically a nucleus family consists of a mother and a father along with their children. However this is not always possible in some situations such as in single parent households or multifamily households consisting if grandparents and or aunts and uncles or even gay couples. As long as children are raised with love and care by the people responsible for them is what would define a family.

Family is those you feel closest and safest with, regardless whether they're relatives or friends. A close and trusted group of friends is as much of a family as those who are genetically related to you.

 @9JYWYHHLiberalfrom Ontario  agreed…1yr1Y

Family is not made by blood but by a connection that when you see your family you feel warm and safe to speak and share your opinion. As well as feel safe to take about hard conversations and laugh at the same time.

 @9TBZD6Tfrom Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

I define family as a group of people connected by love, support, and shared experiences, whether through biological ties or chosen relationships. Over time, my definition has expanded beyond blood relations to include close friends and others who provide emotional care and trust.

 @9QS5M9P from Quebec  answered…8mos8MO

I think for most of my life I've thought of family as comprising those people closest to you. The umbrella usually covers romantic partners, close blood relatives and adopted children but there is room for flexibility (very close friends can become part of the family, and wayward children can be kicked out of the family). One can limit the definition of family to only include blood relations, and while I think that's a perfectly valid definition, it's usually of limited utility (if someone asks you about your family, presumably they're interested in learning about the people closest to you, so what good is it to tell them about your estranged biological brother that you've not spoken to in decades?)

 @9QQQS38answered…8mos8MO

To me, family means unity and the strength and bond between members of a household that build the social structure of a nation. Something that is essential for future growth and internal strength.

Family is not necessary legal or biological. Family is a type of community that surrounds and supports a person through their development and adult life. A family can be anyone who offers an individual emotional and/or financial support.

 @9SZKVH5Liberalfrom Ontario  answered…6mos6MO

Familialism according to literal definition means a cultural value that emphasizes warm, close, supportive family relationships that family must be prioritized over self, however this has changed over time as I view family as more of a strong support system that allows more emphasize on education, and to be in an economic stabilized environment while raising up their kids to be productive citizens of Canada. In this case, family should not only be limited to blood related members but a family can be those who someone can feel strong trust and a sense of respect also belonging knowing that they’re cooperating with safety laws and being able to live comfortably without worrying about violence or prejudice of any forms.

The idea that familiarism is thought to reinforce patriarchal and heteronormative norms, is very stupid. The vast majority of healthy and productive families have certain structural components. Which is largely irrelevant, because the primary factor and concern should always be the health and well-being of the members of the familial unit. Humans are social creatures, their social structures, like a family, our foundational to their success. However you define it, it is necessary.

For me, family is a group of people who share a deep bond, love, and support for one another. It's not just about blood relations, but also about the connections we form with people who are important to us. Personally, my definition of family has evolved over time. I used to think of family strictly in terms of biological relationships, but as I've grown and experienced different relationships, I've come to realize that family can extend beyond blood ties. It can include close friends, chosen family, and even pets who bring joy and love into our lives. Family is about the people who make us feel loved, accepted, and supported, regardless of how we are related to them.

 @9JZ4BJ3from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

The concept of family can vary widely among different cultures and individuals. Traditionally, 'family' has often referred to a group of people related by blood or marriage, but this definition has evolved over time to include chosen families, such as close friends or support networks. This expanded understanding recognizes that family can be based on emotional connections and mutual support rather than solely on biological relationships.
