Prison overcrowding is a social phenomenon occurring when the demand for space in prisons in a jurisdiction exceeds the capacity for prisoners.The issues associated with prison overcrowding are not new, and have been brewing for many years. During the United States’ War on Drugs, the states were left responsible for solving the prison overcrowding issue with a limited amount of money. Moreover, federal prison populations may increase if states adhere to federal policies, such as mandatory minimum sentences. This is not a yes or no question
@8K2G2VK4yrs4Y
Depends on the crime they committed and their mental state.
@8JR6GFY4yrs4Y
only if the criminal is placed under watch for a few years after. if said criminal commits another crime, then put them back.
@8JQLXFS4yrs4Y
We should increase the opportunity for rehabilitation
The prisoners should get support to help them with issues of why they got to prison in the first place. Mental health? Poor socio-economic class? Lack of education? Drugs?
@8HSQLR54yrs4Y
Yes they should be released, but not to reduce overcrowding, they should be released to be rehabilitated
@8H6JLM34yrs4Y
Yes, but provide mandatory rehabilitation for those serving outside of a prison facility.
Yes if they’re given another court hearing to decide.
@8G4D2W5Conservative4yrs4Y
Yes, it should be a graduated program from public service to training/education and eventual reintegration into society.
@8DYJCZP5yrs5Y
It depends on what the person is in prison for.
@8VPBX7TNew Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, but develop more rehabilitation programs for non-violent offenders to prevent reoffending
@8JRM9DF4yrs4Y
I think they should be released by with a lot of supports. Most people don't commit crimes because they want to be criminals, they commit crimes out of desperation. If they had resources, supports, retraining, optional relocation, etc., it would be better for society to have more people contributing to communities in a positive way than in prison.
@8G9WV87New Democratic4yrs4Y
Yes, but they should be provided with sufficient rehabilitation
@6Y6SKYH4yrs4Y
The real reason that overcrowding is a problem in prisons is because the prison system is privatized and for-profit. We need to stop unnecessary mandatory minimums and the disproportional incarceration of Black Americans.
@8ZPHR883yrs3Y
Yes, but we should abolish the current prison system in favor of restorative justice system.
