I think it’s important to help out the citizens knowing that they are here originally and then secondly the foreigners

here originally and people who have been in our country for longer then 5 years.

I think a country with the means to help those outside of it are obligated to do so, but not at the expense of its less well-off citizens.

No, we are one planet, all connected: the head has to take care of a broken hand and can't just operate like the hand doesn't exist.

 @9KKT7PVfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

yes but only to a reasonable extent. the needs of your people are important but meeting them should not come at the cost of others etc.

When it comes to prioritizing citizens' wellbeing over global cooperation, it's a complex balance. Some argue that a country should focus on its own citizens first to ensure their prosperity and security. They believe that by doing so, the country can then contribute more effectively to global cooperation. On the other hand, there are those who emphasize the importance of collaboration and addressing global issues together. They believe that interconnectedness and cooperation benefit everyone in the long run. It's a topic that sparks different opinions.

I disagree with the idea that a country should prioritize its own citizens’ wellbeing over global cooperation. I think that in today’s interconnected world, countries need to work together to solve common challenges and promote mutual interests. As a Canadian, I value the strong ties that Canada has with other countries, especially the United States and the United Kingdom. Canada shares the longest undefended border with the United States, and has a long history of trade, culture, and defense cooperation with both the United States and the United Kingdom. These relationships have…  Read more

I think it is, because they are leading they own country and not the whole world. They have their responsiblities to the countries they lead.

 @9JWNPWXfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Yes I do think its important to prioritize your own citizens as we should not compare out selves to anyone. everyone has their own path.

 @9JW7D6BLiberalfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

No, i think everyone is important and i dont believe prioritizing themselves will help fix bigger issues in the future.

 @9K5RHCFfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

yes, i do. the country’s people should come first and before cooperation with a different country because if you have no people, there is no country.

 @9K5R4VQfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

i don't think it's important. we can't ever dream of achieving peace anywhere because of the constant refusal to cooperate. we need to care for and support all countries that we know we can come eye to eye with. unfortunately though, the world may just be too different for that. we also can't prioritize another country over our own.

 @9K5QBS9 from British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

yes. without healthy, happy citizens, there is no healthy, happy government.

 @9K4LXDXConservativefrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

it depends because if the country is making a decision that could effect other countries they should put that into consideration before prioritising their own citizens.

While it is good to care about your own people nationalism is used to create an "us vs them" mentality. It makes it easier to demonize the other and when you do that heinous actions become rationalized. We need empathy for those that are different in order to prevent tragedies like that from occurring.

Canada is made up of just people like everywhere else. We aren't inherently better than any other people because we are made up of all peoples. Black, white, asian, native, hispanic, male, female and plenty of others. All come from different walks of life and places. We are all Canadians yes but Canada is a land for everyone not just a select few we consider the "in" group.

 @9K6F97Nfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, prioritizing citizens is key to a positive function of global cooperation.

 @9K64YTNfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

I think that while governments should put there own people first they still should put a lot of priority into global cooperation

 @9JZSGZCfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

We are in this together. We have an outstanding life here and countries with less will fight to balance things. Peace can’t happen until we start caring for everyone. This attitude of “I’ve got it and will fight to keep it” will be the end of us all.

It is important because it's a way to share our culture, language, historical pasts, and heritage.

 @9JWL697from British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

Global cooperation i important as it can affect the citizens of a country. However the best choice is to handle both equally without prioritizing one over the other.

 @9K4M34Nfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

We need a good balance, not everyone will be satisfied no matter what you do in a country

 @9JXW8SVfrom British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

that is like having children and spending your time and resources on other children, rather than tending to your own offspring. you should always prioritize your own citizens before other individuals.

 @9JV2ZH7from British Columbia  answered…1yr1Y

I think Canada should worry about itself and it's citizens first, but still care about global politics and civil wellbeing.
