I don’t think adding more gun control rules is fair or useful, because the numbers show most crimes don’t even come from legal gun owners. In Canada, police reports say that around 80–85% of gun crimes use smuggled or illegal guns, not ones bought legally. That means even if the government makes background checks and training way harder, it won’t actually stop most of the crime. Also, Canada already has some of the strictest rules, like you need a license, a background check, and safety training before you can even buy one. The real problem is illegal trafficking, not the people who already follow the rules. Making it harder for them just punishes the wrong group.

Should we add more gun control rules, legal gun owners won't be affected as their guns were legally acquired and ultimately it betters their personal life when they have a safer society. Their family and children at least feel marginally safer. For illegal possession, it's much harder to forge documents and certain certificates of licensing. If there is no proposed alternative to tackling illegal possession, at least this method is able to reinstall trust and faith in the government and police force. Citizens are likely to feel safer, knowing that there is a limited risk of crime. This is a prerequisite to the government being able to take more action and stop this illegal gun acquisition, as otherwise their efforts will be undermined without citizen trust.

Although a large portion of crimes in Canada don't involve illegal guns, stronger gun control can prevent legal guns from being stolen or sold illegally later. Rules such as requiring stricter background checks on people who purchase guns, or limits of certain guns can help ensure that that dangerous weapons wont end up in the wrong hands. Gun control isn't just about targeting criminals; it’s about creating a safer society for everyone.

If gun ownership should be permitted, then it is necessary to ensure these guns do not fall into the wrong hands. The fact that 80-85% if gun crimes use illegal guns is a testament to the effectiveness of restrictions on legal gun ownership, as these precautions ensure that only responsible and mentally-sound individuals are legally able to require guns. I agree with you that illegal trafficking is a serious problem that must be addressed. However, the importance of this issue does not diminish the importance of gun control rules. By this same logic, we should decriminalize all drugs, since outlawing these substances does not prevent fatal overdoses as a result of illegal drugs.
