Spanish authorities have seized what could be the largest cocaine shipment ever recorded at sea, intercepting a cargo vessel off the coast of Western Sahara near the Canary Islands.
The operation, led by the Guardia Civil, resulted in the confiscation of between 35 and 45 tons of cocaine. The ship, reportedly named Arconian, was stopped in international waters and brought to Las Palmas. This massive drug bust highlights the ongoing challenges of international drug trafficking and Spain's key role in intercepting narcotics bound for Europe.
The seizure is being hailed as a major victory in the fight against organized crime.
