It's also been long since we have learned how to safely store nuclear waste.
The most common argument people have against nuclear energy is that it is unsafe. It is the only thing they can criticize because statistics show that it produces more energy and also less waste compared to other energy options (excluding renewable energy sources).
However, this argument is built off of assumptions from old television showing nuclear waste as radioactive glowing green goop and misinformation spread by fear mongering oil companies. Comparing Chernobyl to current nuclear power plants is the epitome of cherry-picking. You can't take the bottom percentile and call it the average, yet that is exactly what is happening. Current nuclear safety standards ensure that the chance of another incident occurring is staggeringly close to zero.
Pointing to nuclear energy as unsafe because of Chernobyl is the same as pointing to airplanes as ineffective because the first successful model by the Wright brothers could barely fly forty minutes.

I agree as nuclear energy while dangerous indeed with bad waste storage or faulty facilities and if we learn to use it effectively and safely we should replace it until a better energy source comes to play
