Yes, but rehabilitation and community programs should be given to create a seamless transition for prisoners into the every day life.

No, we should build more prisons. another option could be to transfer them to under crowded prisons instead. We should also increase funding to offer education and skill building services for prisoners so they can come out as better citizens with skills for employment. Speaking of which, we should provide services for prisoners who have completed their sentences (and have proved they will not commit the crime again, through evaluation(s)) to help them find employment.

Not if avoidable, we should build more prisons and transfer them to under crowded prisons instead and we should increase funding to offer education and skill building services for prisoners, if release is necessary then place them under house arrest using an electronic bracelet and they must perform community service on a daily basis

It really depends on the crime, just because it wasn't violent doesn't mean it wasn't despicable. Maybe put them in military.

 @B4PPBZNfrom Ontario  answered…1mo1MO

Yes, but "nonviolent vs violent" should not be the only division. Habitual criminality should be considered a threat to public welfare too.

 @B4ND9T9from British Columbia  answered…1mo1MO

No we should not. But we should figure out different ways to penalize serious offenders rather than free room and board at the country club. And (depending on statistics of actual crime) Canada should be planning to prevent the criminal activity in the first place leading to the overcrowding.

pending on their crime. Murders, sexual predators, thieves and drug dealers should be transferred to less crowded places. But someone who accidentally killed someone (driving, etc) should perform community service.

Jail for illegal drug use should be abolished. Jail for the sale of illegal drugs should be upheld.
